What’s in the Name?
There are 3 meaningful reasons the word “Transition” fits this ranch so well.
In 2008, owners Sandy and Leslee transitioned from urban full-time veterinary medicine to rural ranching and realestate. This lifestyle change was the catalyst for the name “Transition Ranch.”
“Transiton” literally describes where the ranch sits on a map: nestled in the convergence point of four eco-regions in the heart of Southwest Texas. To the North, the infamous Texas Hill Country; out West, the vast Chihuahuan Desert; just South, the Tamaulipan Plains; and stretching Southeast, the South Texas Plains. A transition zone is not only an area lying “between” different regions, but rather, where all regions are hosted in convergence, overlapping to create an entirely unique transitional ecosystem rich in diversity. The 2,000 acre property features each of the eco-regions mentioned, creating a coalescence from both north and south, as well as east and west. This feature is part of what makes Transition Ranch a prime oasis for large populations of migrating and native birds.
Lastly, the ranch facilitates a Transitional experience for the guests who are open to witness it. When visiting, guests have the opportunity to learn something new, try new things, see new sights, connect with new people, and make new memories. You’ll leave the ranch having changed in some way from when you arrived, and that’s just part of what makes this ranch special.
